A few years ago I had the great fortune to meet photographer Joanne Levey through a friend. Since then I have been thrilled to work with her on many occasions and love to see her creative mind in action. She's responsible for the best photos you see on this site and more. Joanne even came out to a Riza & Rose gig to shoot us live, which I imagine was a challenge! Of course the gig shoot went great and she was able to capture jazz in action. Check out Joanne's website for familiar jazz faces and cool, fashionable pics here: http://joanneleveyphotography.com/index2.php
Thanks Joanne!

Riza and Rose, flute and harp jazz

Riza Printup and Rose Rutledge, Live at Drom
The lovely talented, Riza Printup (harp) and I have partnered frequently to combine our songwriting and arranging into ensembles featuring flute and harp within the jazz idiom. Inspired by the recordings of Frank Wess (flute) and Dorothy Ashby (harp) our goal is to honor their tradition while presenting original works in a fascinating sound-scape that is the result of our two instruments combined with a jazz rhythm section. The duo began as a casual rehearsal group, practicing classical music written for flute and harp, but quickly our joint passion for jazz steered us towards the performance of our originals and arrangements of jazz standards. We were humbled and thrilled to perform last year alongside Frank Wess, himself in a tribute concert dedicated to the recordings he did with Dorothy Ashby. Riza (as always) says it best: “With upmost humility, we carry on the legacy implementing our own voices through originals (Haunt, Venti, Before Dawn, Rebirth) and arrangements of classic standards. Our hope is to stir the heart while stimulating the ears, from our soul to yours.” Check out some of our stuff!
